Starting a travel blog in 2020 wasn’t the best idea… is 2021 any better?

Welcome to Katy Does Travel! My name is Katy Sputo and I am very excited to finally get this blog off the ground!

I started working on the design and overall layout last year and technically published my first post, 20 Safety Tips For Solo Female Travelers, last August. Deciding to start a travel blog during a global pandemic is probably not the first thing one would think of doing, but here we are. Honestly, not being able to travel much over the past 12 months has been tough, but you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. I have been eagerly planning trips in my head, waiting for when it is safe to travel freely again.

I am dedicating this post as a little “get to know me” and “what to expect” primer before starting to publish regular, travel-related content. Definitely check out my about me page (linked above) for my whole story, but for those who want the TL;DR version, here you go!

Like I said, my name is Katy. I am in my early 30’s and I currently live in the Orlando, FL area. I was born and raised in Florida, but have also lived in South Carolina and the Washington, DC metro area. I (obviously) love to travel, despite not really traveling too much throughout my childhood. I have been traveling, mostly solo, for over a decade and I truly enjoy it!

I first went abroad when I was 16 years old on a school trip to England and France. Since then, I have been obsessed with travel and want to explore as much of the world as possible. Most of my travels have been within Europe, but I am eager to explore more areas! Currently, I am not traveling due to the pandemic, but I am ready to go the SECOND it’s safe to do so.

My other hobbies include running, swimming, writing, video editing, podcasting (my newest hobby!), and playing with my cat Maci. I currently work as a marketing and social media coordinator, but my dream is to work as a freelance copywriter. I am a proud Florida Gator and graduated with my master’s degree in Public Relations and Communication Management from the University of Florida back in August 2019.

Through this blog, I will share my past (and eventually future) travel adventures. I plan to write travel guides, itineraries, tips, tricks, and more, specifically with the solo female traveler in mind. While I will aim to have my content be applicable to anyone who is traveling, I also want to pay special attention to solo female travelers, as I am one!
